Penny Racer Blog #3

So, that’s another year that’s gone by then…

It may sound a bit self absorbed – but I can’t quite believe it’s been almost a year and a half since we released Fierce Grin. The time has flown by and although we haven’t released any new material since then, playing the material at gigs throughout 2011 was a lot of fun and felt fresh.

This month marks the 7th anniversary of the band’s formation, and as 2012 begins, we (at present) have no real agenda for the year ahead…

We’ve never been a band that feels we must rush material out (testament to this is our 1 album and 1 EP discography in that time!), but we now feel no rush to actually do anything at all.

There’s no point in going into specifics, but sometimes you just need a break from stuff, a chance to evaluate everything and look at it from an outside perspective.

So for now, we’re going to do the whole Hollywood thing and leave the page open. We may revert to some sort of Russian masochism thing after a while, we shall see.

Promoters - Offer us a gig! We may play, we may not.
Venues - Also offer us a gig. If we play - Yes, we'll sleep on your floor and accept a random guy doing a card trick as payment.
Managers - Continue to get in touch (unless you're looking for the next Coldplay or Razorshite).
People - Keep listening to the material, that shit's around forever...

Penny Racer Blog #2

It’s been 5 months since the last blog, so it’s about time we did another one to let y’all know what’s going down at the moment.

Since May, we have played the following gigs.

Friday 10th June: The Cornerhouse – Cambridge
Friday 24th June: B2 – Norwich
Saturday 2nd July: The Cornerhouse – Cambridge
Thursday 7th July: Arch 635 – Clapham, London
Saturday 9th July: The Shed – Leicester
Saturday 23rd July: The George - Luton
Saturday 20th August: The Hat Factory – Luton
Saturday 20th August: The Arts Club – Worcester

Highlights for me include the Chilli and Chips at The Cornerhouse, The first pint after an emotionally exhausting journey to Norwich (damn that traffic near Thetford…), lots of punk music in Leicester and as always – Luton Aid in August (of which you can see a few clips, courtesy of All Sorts Digital).

Speaking of which, we played Luton Aid pretty early this year (14:30) on the PDM stage. Apart from the fact that we’ve played later slots in recent years and it’s fairer to other bands, we had to travel up to Worcester in the evening to play a gig at The Arts Club as part of the Worcester Music Festival. We arrived there just in time and were met by a very nice promoter who wasted no time in getting us pints of water to take on stage with us. However, we were hit by the “bad timing bug” as most of the punters disappeared to other gigs in the town after the band before us – leaving us playing to only a few people.

Worcester, we never knew you…

The other gigs were great fun though! Made a few friends, sold a few CD’s and loved playing. That’s what it’s all about…

Future plans… Well we’re turning our attention to writing a second album as well as further gigging. We’ll keep you updated on any developments.

For now though – we have these gigs coming up.

Friday 18th November: The Cornerhouse – Cambridge
Saturday 19th November: Retro – London (W10)
Friday 25th November: The Shed – Leicester
Tuesday 13th December: The Horn – St Albans

For the materialistic among you, physical copies of our album ‘Fierce Grin’ and the Beard-Free & Exciting EP are still available at gigs for £3 and £2 respectively.

We’re still looking to make them available online to purchase with a £1 addition to the price for postage and packaging. For now though, badger us at a gig if you’d like to make a purchase.

You can stream/download the material for free from www.prlj.co.uk or stream it from www.myspace.com/prlj

That’s all for now, cheers as always

Dean

Penny Racer Blog - May 2011

This is the first blog/news item that is featured on this blogger site. If anyone wants to see previous entries then head over to our MySpace.

We now have physical copies of our album 'Fierce Grin' available for purchasing at gigs. They're in digipack format purely for your stroking needs and shall retail at £3.

We'll continue to sell the 2006 EP 'Beard-Free & Exciting' at gigs, this will retail at £2.

In the near future - we're looking at having both available to buy online. What will probably happen is we'll just add an extra £1 on for postage and packaging, if you want to buy both at the same time then it'll still be £1 P & P.

We're looking into this now. In the meantime, all tracks from both releases will be available very soon for free download on our newly designed website. Fierce Grin is still available for streaming on the MySpace.

Right, now that we've got all the business-like stuff out of the way, we have some gigs coming up.

Friday 10th June: The Cornerhouse in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
Friday 24th June: B2 in Norwich, Norfolk
Saturday 2nd July: The Cornerhouse in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire (Buzz Weekend all-dayer)
Saturday 20th August: The Hat Factory in Luton, Bedfordshire (Luton Aid 7 all-dayer)

Further gigs to be posted as and when they're arranged.

That's all for now, cheers

Dean
